Resigning

Resignation Retraction Letters

You've resigned, but been enticed to stay by a nice pay rise, promotion or change or role, you'll want to make it right by using one of the following letters.

  1. Straight to the Point
  2. Staying because of Promotion / Pay Rise
  3. Staying because Change of Role

1. Straight to the Point

Dear Lee,

Further to my letter dated <insert date of your original letter> and our conversation earlier today, I write to confirm that I will not now be leaving the company at the end of my notice period.

Yours sincerely

2. Offered another Job, Staying because of Promotion / Pay Rise

Dear Lee,

Further to my letter dated <insert date of your original letter> and our conversation earlier today, I write to confirm that I will not now be leaving the company at the end of my notice period.

As you know, I resigned from my position because I was offered a job by <company> as <job title>. Having spent <time spent> here with you I felt that perhaps it was time to move on to a different challenge and gain valuable career experience elsewhere. However, in our discussions since then you have persuaded me that our company faces a period of exciting growth of which I can be a part. I also look forward to the planned expansion of our department and will endeavour to build an accomplished (and profitable!) team of <teamsters>. Of course, the pay raise you gave me also helps!

I would like to thank you for helping me come to this decision and hope that my work here can be even more fulfilling and productive than before.

Yours sincerely

3. Staying because Change of Role

Dear Lee,

Further to my letter dated <insert date of your original letter> and our conversation earlier today, I write to confirm that I will not now be leaving the company at the end of my notice period.

Having spent <time spent> here in my current role I felt that perhaps it was time to move on to a different challenge and gain valuable career experience elsewhere. However, in our discussions since then you have persuaded me that the company can use my skills in other areas and have very kindly offered me a new position which I am delighted to accept.

I would like to thank you for helping me come to this decision and hope that my work here can be even more fulfilling and productive than before.

Yours sincerely
